Lionel Messi has 18-months remaining on his current contract but Barcelona are eager to tie down the Argentine star to a new and longer deal.
And by doing so the Catalan giants are prepared to offer him a mind-boggling amount of money while making Messi the highest paid footballer on the planet.
The club have already extended the futures of Javier Mascherano and another member of ‘MSN’ in Luis Suarez but hope to have the services of Messi for the entirety of his playing career.
And while they table new offers for both Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ivan Rakitic, it’s Messi they are really keen on finalising.
Though the stumbling block appears to be Messi’s wage demands, as he’s proposing a staggering £825,000-per-week, per MARCA.
Needless to say, as the contract talks continue to stall, Messi has been subject to intense transfer speculation linking him with the likes of Manchester City and PSG.
Yet Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu is hellbent on reaching a new deal which will see him surpass fellow countryman Carlos Tevez’s ridiculous package over in China.
